Book Your Event Today | Professional Event Hire | Call Now for Quote
Most people comparing event hire companies end up with three near-identical quotes and no real way to tell them apart. The quote total is the least useful data point, here’s what actually separates a reliable company from a rebrand of someone else’s warehouse stock.
A “call for pricing” page is a red flag, not a formality, it usually means pricing isn’t systemised, which tends to mean the business isn’t either. An itemised quote inside 24–48 hours is a reasonable bar to hold every company to.
This is the single most-skipped question. Some hire companies sub-contract delivery and setup to a third party who’s never seen your event brief. Ask directly: is the crew on site your staff, or a subcontractor? A company running its own crew (with 24/7 on-call support for day-of issues) is a materially different risk profile than one that isn’t.
Finish matters more than people expect. A Picnic Table – Natural (treated pine, clear-varnish finish) and a Picnic Table – Black, White (painted finish) are structurally the same table, the price difference is purely the finish, and most hire companies won’t tell you that until you ask.
Extras you don’t think to ask about. The built-in umbrella hole on a picnic table sounds like a small thing, until you’re the one standing in full sun at 2pm because nobody mentioned you needed to hire the umbrella separately.
Anyone can put up a marquee. Not every company can produce structural engineering certification for it — and if your event needs a council permit, this stops being optional. Ask for certification up front, not after you’ve paid a deposit.
Not “how many years in business” how many actual events. A company that’s delivered 500+ events since a stated founding date has a very different failure-rate track record than one still building its portfolio, and it’s a fair, non-awkward question to ask directly.
Equipment fails. Weather changes. The real question is whether the company has backup stock and on-call technicians as standard, or whether “we’ll try to get someone out” is the actual answer once something goes wrong at 6pm on a Saturday.
The comparison table you should actually be filling in Instead of comparing quote totals side by side, compare: quote turnaround time, in-house vs. subcontracted crew, engineering certification (yes/no), events delivered, and stated backup/on-call policy. That table tells you more than five “$X starting from” numbers ever will.
